More than 60 children and young people from eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo participated in the “Sounds of Hope for the Soul” project, a special initiative that gave them the opportunity to learn to play musical instruments, sing and dance, as well as express their emotions, write poetry, and work through their inner wounds. New talents were also discovered. The project was funded by the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung and implemented by the Jenga Tumaini ASBL association. It brought great satisfaction to the children, their parents, and the local community. A Dream Becomes Reality in Congo 🇨🇩 Our partner organisation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Jenga Tumaini ASBL has officially inaugurated the Jenga Tumaini Medical Clinic. This clinic will provide essential healthcare services to thousands of people in the village of *Kashusha* and the surrounding communities, where access to even basic medical care was previously almost impossible. Five years ago, we began building this clinic with a shared vision. Today, that vision has become a reality. During the opening, hundreds of women and children came for medical consultations. For many of them, it was the very first medical check-up of their lives. Our goal is to reduce maternal and infant mortality, prevent serious illnesses from going untreated, and provide quality healthcare to the most vulnerable families. No one should have to suffer or die simply because they cannot access basic medical care. This achievement would not have been possible without your generosity and support. Medical help for the needy in Congo
We would like to share the moving story of Maombi, whose name means “prayer” in Swahili. While she was washing clothes in a river with her daughter to provide for her family, a torrential rain suddenly began. The water rose quickly, leaving them stranded on a rock for many hours, exposed to heavy rain and debris. In this extreme situation, Maombi never stopped praying. Her only instinct was to protect her daughter. She says she felt death approaching, yet she kept her faith. Fortunately, the water eventually receded, allowing local residents to come to their rescue. Traumatized by this event, Maombi suffered from post-traumatic stress and had to be hospitalized. Deeply moved by her story, Patrick immediately mobilized our network to get in contact with her. Thanks to the intervention of one of our colleagues on the ground, we were able to support her. We provided food supplies as well as assistance to help her start an income-generating activity. Maombi knows how to sew, so we provided her with a sewing machine along with a small amount of start-up capital to launch her business. Today, she works independently and expresses her gratitude with deep emotion. In Bukavu, she is now known as “the Miraculous.” Her story is a living testament to resilience and hope.

Unfortunately she herself was not able to attend school as a child. As a daily labourer she is working on fields of other people to make a living for her family in Kashusha, a village in the eastern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Again she got pregnant. Around the 7th month into the pregnancy she found herself in a lot of pain. There was no chance to see a Gynaecologist because there is no Doctor around the area she is living in. One day neighbours brought her urgently to a hospital 1.5hrs away by taxi because of severe bleeding. After loosing a lot of blood she felt weak and almost fainted. One Doctor said: a tiny bit longer and she would have died. The Ultrasound of the unborn baby showed sever malformations, the bleeding hadn’t stopped yet. If she would have only had the chance to see a Doctor months ago while being in the second Trimester she wouldn’t have to go through this now. In the hospital they rushed her into the operation hall to save her life. Fortunately Honorine survived, though she lost her child and she was hospitalised a long time. The bill was skyrocketing. Nobody in her Family could afford to pay for it, and there was no care taker of her kids while she was in the hospital. Honorine represents more than 1000 women in this area around her village, who face the same situation: Lack of primary health care. Most of them get pregnant without any chance to discuss family planning. During the entire pregnancy they have no chance to consult a Doctor or get an ultrasound, until the day of Delivery which again is conducted by nurses. This increases the risk of maternal and infant mortality and long term hospitalisation which means the bill is going through the roof. To anticipate this situation we need 20,000€ to equip our Doctors office with medical instruments (as in Ultrasound, Doppler, laboratory equipment) and supplies. Then the women will have the opportunity to see a Doctor during pregnancy, receive check-ups and necessary information on the unborn baby can be found out through the gynaecological screening. With these a smooth delivery can be prepared and the pregnant woman as well as the medical team are in a better position in regards to the eventualities. Through this preparation the maternal and infant mortality will decrease. For 7 years we are working amongst the poorest of the poor, the founder of this organisation himself is Congolese. He knows every facet of the background, culture, languages, and traditions. With this knowledge and our heart for the people living in the eastern part of the Congo we strive to do our best to grant access to basic health care, to facilitate education and to give hope. If we are not acting now, many more women and kids will be loosing their lives by next year, and more kids will be left behind becoming orphans. With this project we expect that more than 1000 women and their partners will receive teachings on family planning, so they have a chance to decide about having a baby and when they do carry an unborn baby they will then get the regular check ups so that no woman will loose her life while giving birth to new life. The longer it will take to reach this goal the more women will die. With your 20€ a woman can see a Doctor once, with 40€ she can get an ultrasound scan additionally - 80€ is the amount needed to provide all material during pregnancy and delivery. 100€ covers the costs of consultation, prevention and delivery itself. Transform Honorine's pain into hope for other women in Congo
L’organisation « Jenga Tumaini » combat les maux d’yeux à travers la distribution des lunettes médicales aux habitants de Kashusha dans le territoire de Kabare au Sud Kivu. Au total, 91 personnes dont 30 femmes et 61 hommes souffrant des problèmes d’yeux ont bénéficié vendredi 25 juillet 2025 des lunettes médicales par l’organisation « Jenga tumaini. » Pour la coordinatrice de l’organisation « Jenga Tumaini », Micheline Kigombe, tout a commencé par l’identification des bénéficiaires et la consultation par un médecin afin de savoir la gravité de la maladie avant la remise des lunettes. Ceci, dans l’objectif d’aider socialement les habitants de cette partie du territoire de Kabare à accéder aux lunettes médicales. « Nous avons pensé que l’octroi des lunettes médicales va aider les habitants de Kashusha à savoir leur état de santé à travers la consultation et accéder aux lunettes pour ceux qui sont dans le critère. D’autres qui n’ont pas reçu les lunettes ont été orientés pour un autre soin plus approprié. Ceux qui ont reçu gratuitement les lunettes médicales sont donc recommandés d’en faire bon usage afin d’encourager le partenaire qui se souci de la santé oculaire qui passe par une bonne vision renchérit Micheline Kigombe. De leurs côté, les bénéficiaires ont remercié « Jenga Tumaini » pour ce geste qui pour la première fois a manifesté le souci de les aider à recouvrer leur vision après un long moment de maladie sans solution. Certains d’entre eux avouent que depuis plusieurs années, ils ont souffert des maux d’yeux mais la précarité financière n’a pas permis qu’ils se fassent soigner correctement. « C’est une joie pour nous car, avoir les lunettes médicales sans payer même un franc Congolais c’est un miracle. Nous avions ce problème depuis longtemps mais on ne pouvait pas se faire soigner. Cet acte de Jenga Tumaini restera gravé dans nos mémoires et on le témoignera aux générations futures. Témoigne les participants Ces derniers promettent de sensibiliser d’autres membres de la communauté sur les activités de Jenga Tumaini et l’importance des soins des yeux afin d’avoir une communauté sans maux d’yeux. Les conditions de vie socio-économiques des femmes et des filles dans l’Est de la République Démocratique du Congo sont difficiles. C'est dans ce sens que nous avons rédigé un projet qui vise à autonomiser les femmes du village de Kasusha et des environs. Le titre du projet est , du Travail journalier a l'autonomisation des femmes. Ce projet prend une savonnerie, une imprimerie mais aussi la fabrication d'objets de valeur. Nous disons un grand merci à l'Ambassade de la Fédération Allemande à Kinshasa pour son soutien financier.
